Pellet stove maintenance
A pellet stove consists of several parts that require maintenance. This can take the form of simple daily maintenance to dismantling parts for thorough cleaning by a professional. Fortunately, you can do a lot yourself.
Here you can read our maintenance instructions for a pellet stove. This applies to both Duroflame pellet stoves and other brands. We have divided the maintenance frequency into 4 categories:
- before each use
- weekly
- every 2 or 3 months
- annually

Maintenance before each use - max 5 minutes
Weekly maintenance consists of cleaning the stove window and the burner chamber. The stove window will need to be cleaned every 2 or 3 days, the burner chamber every 7 days. Keeping the pellet stove clean takes just 10 minutes. This will keep the stove in the best condition and keep the combustion working efficiently. Make sure the stove is cooled down and off when you do the weekly maintenance.
Cleaning the ash pan
The ash tray is the catch basin for the ash particles. The Duroflame collection trays are spacious so you can easily access them.
Cleaning the burner pot
Here, it is important to vacuum out the ash residue from the burner chamber. Use an ash hoover for this; a normal hoover cannot cope with the fine ash particles. Without cleaning the burner chamber, the holes in the burner chamber can become clogged and air can no longer reach the combustion properly. This causes slagging. When cleaning, make sure that no ash or pellets are left under the burner pot.
Maintenance every 2 or 3 months - max. 5 minutes
Stove window
To keep a clear view of the fire, it is necessary to clean the glass in the door.
Use a damp cloth with glass cleaner to clean the outside of the pane. The inside of the glass is already often easy to clean using a damp cloth dabbed in ash.
The glass in the stove can withstand high temperatures, but it can break if it cools down too quickly. Therefore, always wait until the stove has cooled down completely before cleaning with cleaning agents.
Combustion chamber
The burner chamber is the chamber directly behind the pane, where the flame is clearly visible. This chamber should be cleaned every 7 days.
Cleaning of painted metal parts
Lacquered parts can be cleaned with a damp cloth or a (natural) chamois (in connection with leaving behind lint) Do not use aggressive, caustic cleaning agents or oil-based cleaning agents. Do not use benzene or alcohol. A wipe over the stove every week and it will shine continuously in the living room. Also be careful when polishing the outside with a damp cloth.
